Furniture polish has been used by years. Whilst some people love using it, others are not very drawn to the shine furniture polish produces. Nevertheless, furniture polish remains to be one of the most commonly purchased products and will always remain to be a popular purchase.
Why use furniture polish? Well after spending a mini fortune on expensive furniture, the last thing on your mind is wrecking and ruining it. So polishing it on a regular basis will keep is clean, protected from dust and smelling fresh, thus making the whole room look great and smell fresh.
However, did you know that there is a great alternative to furniture polish? That’s right, the use of lemon oil has become more regular and common, since it does not involve any unwanted substances such as beeswax which is commonly found in furniture polish.
How many times should you be polishing your furniture? Well this varies. Some people would say that using it as rarely as once a year would do the trick, whereas others would say that they personally do it once a month. It all depends on how much time you have, and on the condition of your wood. If you look after it in the way that it should be, you may realise that you do not need to polish it as often as you thought.
If you have furniture that is made of low lustre wood, you want to ensure that you use the right polish. In all honesty, the best product to use on lustre wood is known to be lemon oil, since it penetrates into any scratches or worn areas. The oil replaces any moisture that the wood has lost over time (which will increase with age) and will also prevent it from further drying out. In addition to this, the oil will also leave a nice, shiny, streak free finish, making your lustre wood look as good as new!
If you are dealing with painted wood or laminated surfaces, a mixture of lemon oil and all purpose cleaner will be ideal. Simply spray a small amount of lemon oil onto the surface and the spray with any all purpose cleaner. The lemon oil will penetrate into the cracks, nooks and crannies and will loosen all of the stuck dirt and dust, whereas the cleaner will ensure that the dirt is removed and that the surface is left looking and feeling beautifully clean.
If you have leather chairs or sofas, it is very common for your to just give them a good spray and give them a quick wipe down. However, this is not the way to do it. Whilst using furniture polish on your leather does not do it any harm, spraying it directly onto the surface would cause it to be too concentrated and can result in a very slippery surface, which you definitely do not want on a sofa. Simply use a cloth which has been exposed to furniture polish before and use it to wipe off any dust, which will restore your sofas and chairs, making them look as shiny and attractive as new!
When using lemon oil, you need to remember that only a small amount is needed since the oil makes the liquid very saturated and moisture preserving. You may find that treating a cloth with lemon oil is better than using the lemon oil directly on the surface.
Maintaining your furniture is as important and necessary as having a shower. It keeps the furniture dirt free, protected and looking great.
